London-based publisher PlayStack, founded last year in the heart of Soho, has today gained a powerful ally in the form of Rob Crossley. As the head of developer partnerships, Crossley will be responsible for bringing new developers into the PlayStack family and offering them support in the form of funding, publishing expertise and tech.
Crossley’s experience at Creative England over the last year will be key for the relatively new publisher as it seeks to expand. CEO Harvey Elliott says that "Rob’s experience and passion for gaming, combined with his proven track record of helping developers attain the funding they need and establishing an environment to flourish, will be invaluable to PlayStack as we embark on the next phase of our ambitious plans."
These ambitious plans will likely mean an aggressive charm offensive on developers seeking publishing support, who may instinctively be looking elsewhere for funding. Something Crossley had great success with during his time at Creative England. "It was always an enormous joy to support and work with so many talented games developers and their businesses from across England," he says. "At PlayStack my search for developer partnerships will go beyond regional and national borders to every platform and every geography. I want to speak to any and every developer with a game or even an idea who is seeking support, feedback, and investment."
So no matter where in the world you’re based, no-one is safe. If by "safe" we mean "lacking in potential publisher partnership deals". A wider range of developers seeking support could mean greater competition, but it also means that, as if seeing through a palantir, Crossley’s keen eye for hidden gems worthy of investment now extends beyond the borders of the UK’s shires. A gaze more benevolent and, potentially, far more lucrative than the dark lord Sauron’s.
