There are few better illustrations of just how much money is being thrown at the esports scene than the fact that a mobile game you have probably never heard of based on a franchise you’re only partially aware of now offers a five-figure cash prize tournament.
Mobile fighting game Power Rangers: Legacy Wars is getting an official tournament next month.
The nWay developed and Lionsgate published iOS and Android title was released back in March to coincide with the brand’s movie reboot. It allows players to compete as Rangers from across the franchise’s long history (it has, to date, enjoyed 24 seasons). Legacy Wars has so far been downloaded over 23m times, which is a hugely impressive number to hit in just six months.
The tournament will take place at Amazon’s Mobile Masters Las Vegas on October 14th-15th. Qualifying tournaments will continue to run until September 30th via ESL, with the top four players from each region eligible for a place at the Las Vegas event. The winner will grab a cool $10,000.
