Gameloft has “effectively” closed its Seattle office making it the eighth studio the company has closed this year, according to a report.
Multiple sources have told Gamasutra that 15 employees were laid off as the studio has stopped all game development. It was noted however that the studio could still potentially operate as a sales or support office. The move comes as a surprise as the Seattle branch was opened less than a year ago in November 2014.
Develop has reached out to Gameloft for a statement.
Earlier this month, CEO Michel Guillemot admitted Gameloft had shut down seven studios so far in 2015 due to them becoming ‘unprofitable’. The closures form what he called an ambitious cost reduction program to help turn around the company’s finances.
