Tech designed to project game experience outside of the TV

Report: IllumiRoom to light up next Xbox reveal

Microsoft is expected to further show off its IllumiRoom tech at the next Xbox reveal this evening, according to a report.

Technology blogger Paul Thurrott, who previously revealed the date of the new console reveal, said he expected the tech to form part of the next-gen hardware unveiling.

IllumiRoom is designed to help turn the living room into part of the game experience by projecting the game world onto the area surrounding the TV screen.

In a paper for the CHI conference in Paris last month, Microsoft stated the game image would be displayed in low-resolution outside of the constraints of the TV screen, and would be able to recognise uneven surfaces surrounding the TV, such as furntiture and wallpaper, using this information to “create novel, interactive visual experiences”.

IllumiRoom was first disclosed as CES earlier this year, with the aim of creating a more immersive gaming experience. You can watch the video below.
