Report: Layoffs at Activision’s Infinity Ward and Beenox studios

Despite an impressive financial performance for the last quarter, publisher Activision Blizzard appears to be making job cuts at some of its studios.

Kotaku reports that layoffs are occurring at Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare developer Infinity Ward, as well as Modern Warfare: Remastered makers Beenox. That’s on top of job cuts at other internal studios and Activision’s corporate office.

The site claims that Activision has laid off five per cent of its staff; Blizzard and MLG have not been affected, Kotaku adds.

These layoffs follow Activision Blizzard’s Q3 financial report, in which the firm said that Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare wasn’t the success we planned”. Yet overall, Activision Blizzard described the quarter as better-than-expected”.

When asked for comment, Activision sent Kotaku the following statement: Activision Publishing is realigning our resources to support our upcoming slate and adapt to the accelerating transition to digital, including opportunities for digital add-on content.”

In terms of upcoming release slate, Activision hasn’t got much announced for 2017 to date. Destiny 2 is reportedly launching at the end of this year, alongside a more ‘traditional’ Call of Duty game.
