Prototype Fund has awarded small development companies £375,000 to date

Round three begins for Abertay’s £5m fund

Abertay University is now taking applications for round three of its funding program that offers £25,000 to small companies.

The £5 million Prototype Fund run by the University has already awarded £375,000 to computer games companies it believes have “high growth potential”.

Abertay University director Paul Durrant said: “By investing directly in very promising up-and-coming companies, Abertay University is giving them the opportunity to develop a prototype – either to take to market, or to secure additional private investment.

“This is a very different and very important role for Abertay University to take, further developing our support for the computer games industry that has such enormous economic potential for the UK.”

Previous recipients of the £25,000 funding initiative include Adamant Studios, Outsource Media UK and Dundee-based developer Proper Games, which Develop reported on last month.

The Prototype Fund is financially backed by the European Regional Development Fund, the UK government and Abertay University.
