Number of redundancies less than exepcted

Rovio lays off 213 staff

Rovio will lay off 213 staff after concluding employee negotiations first announced in August.

The Angry Birds developer had originally stated it would make up to 260 staff redundant as it restructures the company to focus on three core areas: games, media and consumer products.

The final number of layoffs is less than expected, but still represents around 25 per cent of employees. Staff across the entire workforce have been affected, excluding those working on The Angry Birds Movie in the US and Canada.

As part of its restructuring, TechCrunch reports that Rovio will no longer directly run its educational programmes and will also downsize its attractions business.
