Skylanders franchise reaches $2bn in sales worldwide

Activision has announced the Skylanders series has grossed more than $2bn worldwide.

The publisher revealed the milestone during its annual investor call, adding that the figure is current as of December 31st – the end of Activison’s previous quarter. The series surpassed $1.5bn in retail sales as of August 2013, which would indicate a healthy holiday season for the property.

To date, the video game and toy hybrid franchise has sold approximately 175m individual toys. To compare, Skylanders had sold 100m toys lifetime by the end of 2012.

The franchise’s latest offering, Skylanders: Swap Force, launched this past October.
