New partnership sealed between two of the biggest firms in the online space

Social giants Bigpoint and Spil join forces

Two leading companies in the highly factionalised social games space have negotiated a surprise partnership.

Bigpoint, which hires over 800 people and is considered one of the world’s five leading online games firms, will port selected games to a rival service hosted by the Netherlands-based Spil Games.

Spil Games is thought to hold the largest online games website network, with more than 130 million unique monthly visitors. Bigpoint will seek to take advantage of that huge player network by porting a number of titles across, starting in July with ZooMumba.

Neither company has revealed the finer financial details of the collaboration, though Bigpoint did state that ZooMumba was the first of many games to appear on Spil’s network.

The move is seen a coup for Spil Games – a high-profile validation of its lucrative network – but also opens up a mass of new players to Bigpoint’s own products.

“This is a real meeting of minds,” said Spil CEO Peter Driessen.

“I’ve long admired Bigpoint’s innovation within the browser-based gaming world, and I’m delighted to welcome them to Spil’s expanding social-gaming platforms,” he added.

Bigpoint CEO Heiko Hubertz (pictured) said Spil’s online audience “is unique in the industry”.

“Plus, their global reach, localised approach and easy-to-use API will bring us scalability in efficiently rolling out our games in multiple languages, as well as leveraging Spil’s social features,” he added.

“We’re certain this collaboration will ensure high amounts of exposure to ZooMumba and more of our games in the future.”
