Sony’s 3D gaming TV pushed into 2012

The chances of Sony’s PS3 ready 3D games monitor arriving in the UK this side of Christmas have effectively been ruled out.

The unit was first announced at this year’s E3 in June.

"We have been informed by our supplier that there will be a delay in obtaining stock for this item and it will no longer be released in Europe in 2011," Amazon’s listing for the device now reads.

"If you have ordered this item from us at Amazon.co.uk your order will take longer to fulfill than originally estimated. We are expecting an update in the new year."

The retailer expects to sell the TV for 499. That includes the 24” screen and two pairs of active shutter glasses. One of its key features is the ability for two viewers to watch different 2D content on a single screen at the same time.

Sony had best get a move on – after all, chief executive Howard Stringer reckons that 3D TVs will be in every home by the end of 2012.
