Square Enix Collective will now help indie studios bring their games to mobile platforms, and will offer direct investments of up to $250,000.
Launched last year, the platform enables indies and smaller studios to pitch proposals for PC games as a way of gauging how much interest is out there. Developers are even able to pitch ideas that involve some of the publisher’s classic IP.
Square Enix then helps the most successful with their crowdfunding appeals. Now the firm has announced it will assist with titles designed for smart devices as well, according to Pocket Gamer.
It will also offer direct investment as an alternative to crowdfunding. Funding will be decided on a case-by-case basis, depending on the nature and size of the project, and could see Square Enix invest up to $250,000 in each indie title.
So far, Square Enix Collective has published around 40 pitches for its community to provide feedback, and helped developers secure more than $300,000 in Kickstarter backing.
“Now the Collective platform’s more established, we’re confident that it’s a good time to open it up further and be more inclusive,” creator and project lead Phil Elliott told Pocket Gamer.
