Steam Workshop has made creators $57m

Users of Valve’s modding storefront Steam Workshop have made a total of $57m between them since it went live in 2011.

The income has been spread across 1,500+ creators, who themselves stem from 75 countires.

Valve has also announced that curated Workshops will no longer be limited to first party games, either, with both Chivalry: Medieval Warfare and Dungeon Defenders: Eternity both getting their own portals.

A new set of real-time revenue tracking tools have also been made available for mod creators.

This is really exciting news and means that more high quality content will be available for the game you love playing. Plus, purchases of this great new content directly enables those community members to continue practicing their craft and making more awesome content,” Valve said.

We expect more curated Workshops to become available for creators and players in various games over the coming weeks and months.”

The Steam Workshop currently houses a wide assortment of content, including over 24,000 Skyrim mods, 413k+ Portal 2 mods, 17k+ Dota 2 mods and nearly 525k mods for Garry’s Mod.
