Chinese giant purchases remaining equity in League of Legends studio

Tencent now fully owns Riot Games

Riot Games is now entirely owned by Tencent as it restructures to better reward its staff.

In a post on the studio’s website, the League of Legends developer confirmed that Chinese investment holdings firm Tencent has “recently purchased the remaining equity of Riot Games”.

The new comes as the studio enjoys “continued growth and changing circumstances” that will see it adopt a new structure to better support its workers.

Specifically, the full purchase of Riot allows it to move away from its current equity program towards “a cash-based incentive program that allows Rioters to share in our success”.

The firm confirmed current benefits for full-time staff – such as competitive salaries, open PTO, learning and development programs, and more – will not be changed.

Tencent first purchased a majority stake in Riot Games back in 2011.
