The Amazon console is dongle – report

The in-development Amazon games console isn’t a console at all, a new report has claimed.

TechCrunch claims to have word from multiple sources familiar with the device” that Amazon’s console is in fact a Chromecast-like USB dongle that supports PC game streaming as well as Android game support.

In fact, the site even draws comparisons between the device and OnLive, adding that titles will be streamed at 30fps directly from Amazon’s already expansive server network.

These reports conflict with claims made earlier this year that Amazon’s console will be an Apple TV-like under-the-TV box.

It is presumed that it will be compatible with the recently pictured Amazon controller – which again, was fairly OnLive-like. Also presumed is out-of-the-box compatibility with Amazon Instant Video and Amazon MP3.

OnLive, of course, recently announced a relaunch complete with a new business model.
