There’s a Firewatch film on the way

Campo Santo’s indie hit Firewatch is being made into a movie.

That’s according to The Hollywood Reporter, which says that Bad Neighbours and Oldboy studio Good Universe is on board to give the game the silver screen treatment.

The title launched in February of this year for PS4 and PC. The title sold 500,000 copies in its first month, and sold enough for the studio to recoup its development costs on Day One.

Firewatch has gone on to sell 1m copies digitally. Speaking to MCV in June, Campo Santo said it was interested in releasing the game physically.

When we met Good Universe we were floored by how they recognise, cultivate and produce incredible stories," said Sean Vanaman, Campo Santo’s founder.

It’s rare you meet another group that shares so many of your values and makes the process of creating things even more exciting. We can’t wait to see what we make together.”

Good Universe co-founder Joe Drake added: Finding extraordinary content is incredibly exciting, and with the Campo Santo team, we felt an immediate simpatico with their utterly beguiling storytelling and amazing creative instincts.”

This news comes as a Skylanders TV show hits Netflix. 2016 has also seen films based on Ratchet & Clank and Angry Birds launching, with an Assassin’s Creed film coming out before the end of the year. Oh, and there’s also a TRILOGY of Tetris movieson the way.
