THQ starts using Universomo’s Cell

THQ Wireless has begun using Cell Weaver, the software engine created by its recently acquired games development studio Universomo.

Cell Weaver is designed for use across many genres of Java mobile phone games, and will be used in multiple THQ Wireless games. It is designed to create a control mechanic that lets the game player form sequence patterns by using the phone keypad. It comes into its own in combat games where the player has to defend and strike back with counter moves. However, it can also be applied to music, dance or rhythm based games.

The first consumer–facing launch of in-game Cell Weaver technology is scheduled for launch in Spring 2008.

Adam Comiskey, international VP of THQ Wireless, said: “Universomo’s Cell Weaver game technology is a versatile application for game design enabling the most sophisticated game design solutions. Cell Weaver will provide the mobile game player with fast, simplistic functionality for lightning speed, fun gameplay”.
