A 48-hour Game Jam hosted by UKIE with Mobile Pie, Develop and MCV that will see developers and journalists swap roles is just three weeks away.
Starting at 5pm on Friday, October 5th and running for 48 hours, five journalists will be switching roles with five developers to create a game in two days.
The journalists will receive assistance from student developers to take part in a unique experiment as part of London Games Festival 2012.
The developers will become ‘hack journalists’ and shall report on the teams’ progress, conduct interviews and write scoops.
The coverage will be published on the Develop website and culminate with a review of the finished games.
Mobile Pie’s Will Luton, a Develop columnist, devised the concept in March:
“The idea came to me when I was writing a blog to deadline for Develop at this year’s GDC," he said.
“I thought ‘we always bitch on journalists but these guys have a tough job’.
"It was a small leap to swap the roles in a hack, I put it to Twitter, the response was insane, and UKIE and Develop pitched in to make it happen.”
Both teams’ progress will be judged by industry luminaries and after the headline winners will be decided and named as MCV and Develop ‘Developer and Press Swap Up’ winner.
The games will also be available online for the public to play.
Festival director Kirsty Payne added: “Developers and journalists often think they could do each other’s jobs better – now it’s time to find out.”
