Twitch now the biggest video site for gamers

More gamers are tuning in to Twitch for their gaming videos than any other site.

Analytics firm comScore found the video platform to boast the largest audience and most-engaged users across all sites dedicated to the gaming audience.

Despite not naming the firms specifically, comScore claims Twitch has over ten times the number of videos over its closest rival. The report also found Twitch to have five times more videos watched per viewer and five times more minutes watched per viewer.

Whichever way you look at it, lots of gamers are watching Twitch.

The growing popularity of live video on Twitch has been apparent in all corners of the video game industry, ranging from individual gamers to the biggest publishing, developing and media brands,” said Jonathan Simpson-Bint, Chief Revenue Officer, Twitch.

But Bint adds Twitch isn’t satisfied with the top spot and expects the platform to grow further with the launches of Xbox One and PS4.

While comScore’s top ranking of Twitch confirmed what we already saw coming in terms of the broadcasting and spectating trend, it’s just the beginning. We expect the movement to really take off when the broader console community gets its first taste of the live experience on the Xbox One and PS4.”

Regional director of EMEA, Stuart Saw took to the stage at last night’s London Games Conference to highlight the growth of Twitch within the last year.

The platform is now reaching over 44m unique viewers each month and has achieved over 55m active users this year alone.

Saw said gamers are tired of traditional games content and are turning to Twitch instead.

People want live content, not written reviews. They want to get involved, ” said Saw.

People are no longer watching TV. They are no longer just static. The interactivity on Twitch is a massive factor driving these engagement numbers.
