Montreal stepping back for the first time since 2007 original

Ubisoft Quebec takes the lead for next Assassin’s Creed

Ubisoft’s Montreal studio is handing over the reigns of the Assassin’s Creed series to its Quebec-based sister for the next entry in the franchise.

Kotaku revealed that Ubisoft Quebec will be the lead developer on Assassin’s Creed Victory, which will be released next year for PS4, Xbox One and PC. The game is set in Victorian London.

Traditionally, Ubisoft Montreal has led development on the biggest Assassin’s Creed games since the original 2007 title. This is the first time another studio will take the lead on a major entry in the series.

Ubisoft Quebec has plenty of experience with the francise. It developed the Tyranny of King Washington DLC for Assassin’s Creed III and Assassin’s Creed IV’s well-received Freedom Cry DLC.

Reports suggest this will be the only Assassin’s Creed released next Q4, unlike this year where Ubisoft released both Unity for newer consoles and Rogue for Xbox 360 and PS3.

Ubisoft has actually released a statement following the unofficial reveal of Assassin’s Creed Victory, stressing that it remains dedicated to fixing the troubled Unity:

"It is always unfortunate when internal assets, not intended for public consumption, are leaked. And while we certainly welcome anticipation for all of our upcoming titles, we’re disappointed for our fans, and our development team, that this conceptual asset is now public.

"The team in our Quebec studio has been hard at work on the particular game in question for the past few years, and we’re excited to officially unveil what the studio has been working on at a later date. In the meantime, our number one priority is enhancing the experience of Assassin’s Creed Unity for players."
