UPDATED: Snake Pass slithers onto Nintendo Switch on March 29th

UPDATED: Sumo Digital has confirmed that Snake Pass will be launching on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC on March 29th in the UK, a day later than in the US.

The game will also support Sony’s PS4 Pro at launch with enhanced, HDR visuals, a higher resolution and a higher frame rate. HDR will also be available on regular PS4s.

Xbox One owners will also be able to play the game free of charge on a Windows 10 PC thanks to Microsoft’s Xbox Play Anywhere Initiative, while Switch owners can benefit from the console’s TV mode, handheld mode or tabletop mode using either the Joy-Con controllers or the Switch Pro controller.

"Snake Pass is a real passion project for the team, said Snake Pass creator Seb Liese. "It’s been so fun creating our own characters, visual style and establishing our own voice as IP creators. Our mission with Snake Pass was to make the simply act of controlling Noodle the Snake as fun as possible. Once players start to ‘think like a snake’, they will be amazed at the incredible feats of acrobatics they are capable of."

ORIGINAL STORY (2th February): Sumo Digital’s 3D action puzzle game Snake Pass is coming to the Nintendo Switch, the developer confirmed last night. There’s no concrete release date just yet, but Sumo said it’s currently aiming for Q1 this year, so expect it to hit shop shelves before the end of March.

"Very soon Nintendo fans across the world will be challenged to ‘think like a snake’ by slithering, coiling and climbing across the once idyllic mountain of Haven Tor," the team wrote on its website.

"Taking control of Noodle the Snake, accompanied by his hyperactive best buddy Doodle the Hummingbird, players will face snake-bending obstacles and perilous pitfalls in their quest to find and restore the Keystones that give Haven Tor its’ mythical power!

"Whether you want to slither on the go in handheld mode, coil up in table-top mode or climb into a comfy sofa and play in TV mode, Snake Pass on the Nintendo Switch is the perfect way to play, wherever you are!"

Snake Pass creator Sebastien Liese added: I always thought Snake Pass would be great fit for a Nintendo platform but I never dreamed it would come out so close to the launch of their brand-new console!”

The result of one of Sumo’s internal game jam projects, Snake Pass is also being developed for the PS4, Xbox One and PC. Sumo is also self-publishing the title, with a release date currently slated for "early 2017".

Our sister site Develop has more details about the game, how it came about and what players can expect to see when it launches later this year.
