Virtual Console titles get Wii revamp

Nintendo has in a surprise announcement confirmed that the upcoming Virtual Console version of N64 title Pokemon Snap will boast additional Wii-specific functionality – the first time a Virtual Console title will differ from its original coding.

CVG reports that the game will allow people to post photographs they have taken in-game online for other Wii users to gander at.

Traditionally, all three platform holders have resisted making any coding alterations to retro titles, instead preferring to release them in their original for, Indeed, Nintendo itself has come in for criticism from some quarters for its unwillingness to release 60hz borderless versions of its PAL Virtual Console titles in Europe.

And Microsoft has resisted calls to add to its upcoming Xbox Originals offering by stating that the games will not feature in-game Achievements or added online play – the firm’s Major Nelson stated: In order to preserve the integrity of the original gaming experience they provide, they will have the features available at the time of their initial release.”

The news that Nintendo is obviously willing to enhance its retro titles suggests some intriguing possibilities – MCV can’t shift the words ‘online Mario Kart’ from its mind.
