Vivendi’s Stéphane Roussel appointed as the new CEO of Gameloft

Former Vivendi COO Stphane Roussel has been named CEO of Gameloft during its shareholders’ meeting yesterday.

In addition to Roussel, four new members also entered the Gameloft board of directors: Sbastien Bollor (chairman of Omnium Bollor, director and chairman of Blue Solutions USA), Frdric Crpin (member of the Vivendi management board, general counsel of Vivendi and Canal+ Group), Francine Mayer (chairman of Canal+ Rgie) and Maxime Saada (CEO of Canal+ Group, chairman and CEO of Dailymotion).

In a statement sent to the Gameloft staff, Roussel said: I start my role today with an ambitious plan: to combine your creative passion with Vivendi’s to accelerate Gameloft’s development.

You will be a fully-integrated member of the Vivendi family while maintaining your distinctiveness and originality.”

This announcement follows the acquisition of Gameloft by Vivendi at the beginning of the month. The Guillemot family, who founded the studio, has always criticised Vivendi’s hostile approach.” Ahead of Vivendi’s takeover, Gameloft Michel Guillemot stepped down in order to protect Ubisoft – run by his brother, Yves Guillemot.

Vivendi also owns 20 per cent of Ubisoft. Speaking to MCV last week, Ubisoft EMEA boss Alain Corre reiterated that the current management team is the ‘best future for the company’.
