Wargaming has acquired Gas Powered Games

MMO developer and publisher Wargaming has acquired Supreme Commander creator Gas Powered Games.

Wargaming will as part of the deal assume full ownership of the studio, bringing key staff members such as founder Chris Taylor on board.

"Gas Powered Games’ heritage and development pedigree shows us just how valuable an addition Chris and his company will make to the Wargaming family," Wargaming CEO Victor Kislyi stated. "Gas Powered Games has a long track record of providing incredibly engaging AAA gaming experiences and we can’t wait to start working with them."

Chris Taylor added: "Wargaming growth in recent years has been tremendous, and we’re looking forward to joining one of the fastest growing gaming companies in the world. I’m sure our experience and expertise will help us contribute even more to Wargaming’s global success."

Wargaming recently acquired FEAR and MechAssault developer Day1 Studios as well as middleware provider Big World.

Gas Powered Games’ recent history has been less promising. The studio recently went live with a Kickstarter push for new title Wildman, only to announce the layoff of staff just days later.

The Kickstarter was then cancelled just four days before it was due to close, having raised a total of $500k – less than half of its $1.1m target.
