Wii cut to £129

Nintendo has effectively cut the price of its Wii console by 50 with the launch of a new bundle.

The Mario Kart Wii pack will arrive in two weeks, on May 20th, with an estimated retail price of 129 – a big drop on the previous price of 179.

At the same time it will also reduce the trade cost of its Wii Sports Resort pack, a move which will also result prices of around 129.

It is the first price cut for the Wii since it was launched in the UK just over four years ago.

In a flurry of activity that will re-ignite the console at retail and position it as an even more mainstream and family-friendly proposition, May 20th will also see the introduction of a new value software range, Nintendo Selects.

The first five games announced are Wii Sports, WarioWare: Smooth Moves, Mario Strikers Charged Football and Animal Crossing: Let’s Go to the City all of which will benefit from a new, reduced ERP of 19.

It’s the first time Wii Sports has been available as a single SKU disc – previously it has been included in the basic Wii bundle – and presumably exists for new Wii owners who buy the Mario Kart bundle first.

The Mario Kart Wii pack contains a white Wii, Wii Remote Plus, Nunchuck, Wii Wheel and Mario Kart.

The Wii Sports Report pack includes a black Wii, Wii Remote Plus, Nunchuck and a copy of Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort on one disc.
