Xbox boss Phil Spencer becomes executive vice president of gaming at Microsoft

Congratulations are in order for Xbox and Microsoft Games Studios own Phil Spencer who has earned a promotion out of the current Microsoft corporate reshuffle. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has been restructuring the senior leadership team at Microsoft over the last few months and Spencer has become the 16th member of that team.

Spencer, who joined the company in 1988, has been the head of Xbox, Microsoft Studios and Microsoft Game Studios and is credited with turning around the fortunes of the company’s gaming interests following a shaky launch for the Xbox One. He took the reins of the Xbox team in 2014 when Nadella was made CEO.

According to Business Insider, Spencer’s new job title is executive vice president of gaming. This could suggest that gaming is very big on Microsoft’s agenda. The launch of the Xbox One X is looking to gain early dominance in the high-end console market with its push for 4K resolutions. The Hololens and the Microsoft Mixed Reality projects are looking at how both business and entertainment can be enjoyed without the need for fully immersive technology like a virtual reality headset.

The Xbox One X is due to launch on November 7th and more pre-orders for the device went live today, following the ‘Project Scorpio’ edition selling out last month.
