Social games giant Zynga has kicked off 2011 much in the same way it left 2010; by buying out another company in the social games space.
The CityVille developer opened its account for the year in acquiring the social web browser group Flock.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Flock, founded in 2005, offers a browser experience similar to Firefox yet with built-in social media such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr. It claims to have over 10 million users.
The company received over $30 million in funds by VC groups such as Shasta Ventures, Bessemer Venture Partners, Catamount Ventures and Fidelity Ventures.
“Our team will help Zynga in achieving their goal of building the most fun, social games available to anyone, anytime, on any platform,” Flock CEO Shawn Hardin said.
“We thank our users for their unwavering support and dedication, and we’re thrilled to be going to a platform that shares our passion for combining great user experience and technology.”
