Torrent site closes due to feared legal action

BT Junkie shuts down voluntarily

The torrent site BT Junkie closed today, allegedly due to feared legal action.

The file sharing sites Megaupload and Pirate Bay have both seen their share of legal trouble in the past few weeks, and according to Torrent Freak, this was the primary reason for the site’s closure.

Torrent Freak quotes the anonymous owner of BT Junkie as saying;

"…the legal actions against other file-sharing sites such as MegaUpload and The Pirate Bay played an important role in making the difficult decision. Witnessing all the trouble colleagues got into was cause for a lot of worry and stress, and those will now belong to the past."

The growing legal pressure has led several other file sharing sites to discontinue service. FileSonic, FileService, and Uploaded all cut off file sharing soon after the arrest of Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom.
