COMPANY PROFILE: SEGA Studios Australia

Originally called The Creative Assembly, SEGA Studios Australia rebranded in December of 2010, and recently spoke to MCV about the changes the team has undergone.

The Creative Assembly was founded in 2002 and quickly grew its reputation based on the success of the solid ‘Total War’ series.

In December 2010, after several collaborations with SEGA, the company officially rebranded as SEGA Studios Australia (SSA), and has since begun work on London 2012: The Official Videogame of the Olympic Games.

Marcus Fielding, studio director, said to MCV: "SEGA Studios is on the fast track to becoming not just Australia’s most talented games studio, but also a studio that will lead the way in respecting the work life balance of its staff."

Paul Phare, one of SSA’s designers, commented: "This company has changed for the better, grown a whole lot bigger and still looks after the employees individually."

The company now houses 75 Australian developers, and the recent establishment of a motion capture facility (which is now one of the largest in the Southern hemisphere) is only helping to cement its growth.

Mark Rowley, technical director for the studio, says: "I feel priveleged to be a part of the rebranding of SSA, in some ways it has felt like the rebirth of a studio."

London 2012 is scheduled for release next year.
