GameStop reverses Mercenaries block

In the latest twist in what is becoming a somewhat untidy saga, retailer GameStop has reversed a decision to block consumers from trading in copies of 3DS title Resident Evil: Mercenaries.

It emerged earlier in the week that the game, which saves data directly onto the card, will not allow users to reset their saves. Therefore, any consumers getting their hands on it second hand will find the previous owner’s progress cannot be deleted.

Capcom told MCV that the issue won’t affect its trade-in potential, but a swathe of retailers and rental companies across the world have claimed they won’t be offering the title.

The biggest amongst these was GameStop, but not it seems things have changed.

"GameStop did ask the US store base to stop accepting trades on Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D as we evaluated the save system for the game," the retailer told IGN.

"Upon further review of the process with our publisher partner, Capcom, GameStop will resume taking trades on the game effective Wednesday, June 29th."

And although MCV is still waiting for a response as to whether trade-ins were a factor in the design decision, Capcom has denied this was the case to IGN.
