Comments – and why we’ve deactivated them

We’ll be the first to admit that a lively and opinionated comments thread can add to a story.

Genuine industry feedback on important industry issues makes MCV what it is.

When we went live with the current build of MCVuk.com in 2009 we opted to allow comments from everyone – trade and consumer alike.

We currently have a mix of registered and unregistered users. Retailers, in particular, enjoyed the ability to get involved in trade stories without fear of supplier reprisals.

The system worked well initially, with an array of insightful commentary. But we have to admit that, lately, it has not been so great.

Why? Because some people just can’t behave, and have abused the privilege that comes with the opportunity to post anonymously.

So we have decided to turn off the article comments system. For the time being, at least.

The good news is that comments will return soon, complete with a registration-only process and a brand new MCVuk.com.
