Registration still open for eventâ??s third annual outing

Record contestant nations in Global Game Jam

A record 39 nations will be participating in the upcoming Global Game Jam event, the event’s organiser has announced.

The unique event, now entering its third year, will bring together groups of aspiring developers to build their own new game in just a single weekend.

The ‘jam’ takes place simultaneously across different places around the world, from the US to Israel, to the UK, to South Korea, to Spain, to 2022 World Cup Bid winner Qatar.

“Global Game Jam 2011 has registered 135 jam sites in 39 countries,” read an announcement on the event’s website.

The event, which runs from January 28th to 30th, will kick off in New Zealand.

All participants are given similar tasks and guidelines in which to build their game under, and one of the lessons learned from the first Global Game Jam was how the same restrictions can yield wildly different results from diverse nations and cultures.

Last year’s Jam clocked 38 total participating nations. The 39 registered for this year could still grow further, with registration still open.
