RuneScape studio scoops gong at 28th Golden Joysticks

Jagex crowned UK Developer Of The Year

Cambridge studio Jagex has been crowned UK Developer of the Year at today’s Golden Joystick Awards 2010.

The developer – most famous for its work on the hugely popular MMO RuneScape – recently expanded its immensely successful self-publishing model to incorporate external publishing in an exclusive partnership with Tiga.

The company, which announced in January that it was to open an entire publishing division, has also met with success in publishing MMO War of Legends and through its gaming portal FunOrb.

UPDATE: Jagex CEO Mark Gerhard has reacted to his team’s win.

“There was some really tough competition for this award and it goes without saying that we are incredibly delighted to be taking the award with us once again this year," said Gerhard.

"I would like thank our incredible community who voted for us in their thousands and, on behalf of the entire Jagex team, I would like to dedicate this award to them. 2009/10 has been a significant year for Jagex, over the last 12 months we have moved into third party publishing, launched our first iPhone games and continued to grow and develop RuneScape so it is fantastic to cap it off by winning such a prestigious award.”

To secure the public-voted award Jagex beat off stiff competition from Codemasters, EA Bright Light, Lionhead, Media Molecule, Rare, Rockstar North, Rocksteady Studios, SCE London Studio and Team 17
