New job post the latest hint that Schofieldâ??s crew is picking up Infinity Wardâ??s job

Sledgehammer given ‘Call of Duty FPSâ?? project

New Activision studio Sledgehammer Games is suspected to be developing a Call of Duty FPS title, after the group published a series of revealing recruitment adverts.

The studio, formed last year by ex-Visceral leaders Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey, is – or was – thought to be dedicating its workforce on something other than an FPS.

But one of the studio’s newly-published recruitment advert reads: “We are actively recruiting top talent for our Call of Duty First Person Shooter development team.”

The revelation signifies the uncertainty surrounding Activision’s Call Of Duty output.

Last year Activision’s plan was relatively straightforward: Treyarch and Infinity Ward both developed new Call of Duty games under two-year deadlines. Both were positioned one year out of sync from each other, so that the games were released in rotation every Christmas.

Yet the unremittingly damaging Infinity Ward row has thrown that plan into disarray.

Treyarch is focused on Call of Duty, but Infinity Ward’s future is uncertain. The group has lost significant members of management and high-level staff.

Sledgehammer’s job post is the latest indication that Infinity Ward could be on hiatus in regards to building a Call of Duty FPS, and comes in the wake of many analysts and commenters claiming that Infinity Ward will close down and remain dormant as a brand.
