Casual games firm lands in Canada and will eventually employ some 50 staff

Big Fish opens Vancouver studio

Big Fish Games has started spending the massive $83m VC funding it received last month – the firm has opened a new studio in Vancouver, Canada.

The new studio will develop some of the 30 games Big Fish develops internally each year and which it published on its portal alongside a raft of externally made games.

When the firm announced its big venture capital funding last month, it said the money would be spent on expansion to Canada – Vancouver is already host to a number of studios, including EA’s Canada and Black Box teams, Relic, Propaganda and many others.

“There’s a very strong artistic community in Vancouver,” Big Fish’s vice-president of human resources told Straight.

“There’s the film industry. There was a number of cross-disciplinary areas that are very attractive to us for Vancouver.”
