$40,000 and GDC passes up for grabs for unique game demos

Havok and Intel open search for physics innovation

Havok and Intel have pledged $40,000 in a search for game demos that feature inventive uses of physics.

Entrants can use the Intel-sponsored free PC version of Havok Physics to develop their samples, which will be judged on innovation, realistic user interaction, responsiveness, quality of visual content, technical accuracy and ‘value to the community’.

Four winners will be selected by a panel of judges, who will each win $10,000 and an all-access pass to next year’s Game Developers Conference 2009. Two further winners will receive ‘top-of-the-line PC equipment’ for those who ‘devise technical content that shares physics knowledge with a broader developer base’, such as code samples, optimisation tips and whitepapers.

“Havok is committed to advancing this industry from top to bottom and supporting creativity from its earliest stages,” said David O’Meara, managing director of Havok. “The industry is always on the lookout for emerging talent and we anticipate that the competition will generate innovative entries from the amateur game developer community.”
