Renowned Japanese designer is still a creative officer at Japanese publisher

No, wait, Yu Suzuki does work for Segaâ?¦

So it turns out the reports detailing the demise of Yu Suzuki’s Sega career have been greatly exaggerated – the Japanese publisher has put out a statement pointing out he is still creative officer for the company.

The original suggestion the Out Run (pictured), Virtua Cop and Virtua Fighter designer had left Sega came from a Gamasutra interview with Sega USA head Simon Jeffery.

Jeffery said of Suzuku: "He’s kind of his own man right now. Every now and again, he’ll come up with an idea, and I don’t think anything has come out of that yet, but we’re still working with him. He’s not an employee anymore…"

But just hours later, Gamasutra reports Sega has clairfied Jeffery’s comments.

"I can safely say that Yu Suzuki is in fact still a Sega employee," said Jeffrey, describing him as "Creative Officer of Sega Corp."
