Square Enix FY profits fall

Square Enix has posted a full fiscal year profit of 9.2 billion Japanese Yen ($88.5 million) for the 12 months to March 31st, 2008 – down 20.9 per cent year-on-year.

Sales also fell in the period, down 9.8 per cent to 147.5 billion Yen ($1.42 billion), with declining revenues most damaging outside of Japan – particularly North America.

During FY 2007 the firm sold 14.41 million software units – down from 16.93 million the year prior. 7.52 million games were sold in Japan, 3.79 million in North America and 3.02 million in Europe.

Sales in the publisher’s online, offline, mobile and amusement divisions all fell year-on-year.

Square forecast a further decrease in software sales in FY 2008-2009. It expects to sell 11.5 million games in total – 6.6 million in Japan, 2.7 million in North America and 2.2 million in Europe.

The company also predicated an increase in net sales to 160 billion Yen ($1.54 billion) and a slight drop in operating income to 21 billion Yen.
