Disney acquires Chinese studio

Disney Interactive Studios is to acquire Gamestar – one of China’s leading independent video game software developers.

With locations in Shanghai and Wuhan, Gamestar was established six years ago, and describes itself as a ‘world-class games developer’.

The terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.

Gamestar will play an important role in our global growth plans, providing a high quality talent pool for our expanding product portfolio,” said executive vice president and general manager of Disney Interactive Studios Graham Hopper.

Our global expansion is aimed at achieving a new level of creative capacity, quality, and expertise in video game software development.”

Gamestar employs more than 90 people, and will becomes the sixth studio in Disney Interactive Studios’ portfolio.

Disney’s previous acquisition was Warren Spector’s Junction Point Studios, based in Austin, Texas, which it acquired in July 2007.
