Play.com Live proves amazing success

Play.com Live kicked off at Wembley last weekend to snaking queues, smiling faces and some stunning new games.

Highlights included a talk from the Far Cry 2 developers, live performances from the likes of Elliot Minor and a giant, inflatable Stay Puft.

For our first show it was an amazing success,” said head of games at Play.com Gian Luzio. Just over 20,000 people attended, and was spread evenly over the two days.”

We were concerned the turnout might be affected by the weather, but that wasn’t the case with gamers showing up in their droves. I was particularly delighted by the number of families that showed up, and the feedback they gave was overwhelmingly positive.”

Games on display included Haze, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Sega Superstars Tennis, Ghostbusters, Lego: Indiana Jones, The Bourne Conspiracy, Race Driver: GRID and much more. The PES tournament also came to a dramatic conclusion, and there was a Rock Band battle live on stage.

The event was hosted by Iain Lee and Gemma Atkinson, and there were signing sessions from Doctor Who’s Tom Baker and Red Dwarf star Robert Llewellyn. However, Luzio was keen to thank the exhibitors for their support.

The exhibitors were fantastic and did a brilliant job of making the event what it was,” he added. In fact, the support from the entire industry was wonderful.”
