PS3 Blu-Ray player gets update

PS3’s reputation as one of the best Blu-Ray players on the marketplace will take a further boost tomorrow with the arrival of Sony’s latest firmware update, taking the disc standard to what is known as ‘Profile 1.1′.

Though to many PS3 owners this will mean absolutely nothing, it does mean that PS3 will be ready to make the most of the new features boasted by the second generation of Blu-Ray films, most notable of which is picture-in-picture display – very handy for director commentaries.

Other new features on the way include AVI, DivX and wmv video support, and obscurely, a new voice changer that will allow annoying American teenagers to augment their already annoying voices when playing online games, resulting most likely in an even higher level of general annoyance.
