Maximum Games’ new action IP Extinction will be playable at E3

Extinction, a brand-new action title and IP from Iron Galaxy and Maximum Games, is coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC in Q1 next year.

Featuring epic battles with huge ogre-like monsters, the title will be playable behind closed doors at this year’s E3, publisher Maximum Games has confirmed, so make sure to book an appointment if you’d like to get an early look.

Players take on the role of Avil, a warrior who is one of the last sentinels of Earth. He’ll fight huge ogres across the countryside using a skill-based combat system, says Maximum, and his attacks will play out on the ground and in the air. Defending cities and rescuing wayward villagers will also form an important part of the game’s action.

From the sound of it, Extinction hopes to recapture the same kind of intense action as third-person action games like DmC Devil May Cry and PlatinumGames’ Bayonetta, as Avil will have a whip to perform aerial assaults as well as the ability to wall-run.

Its numerous battlefield environments will be fully destructible, too, and players will also have the ability to create their own unique battlefields to share with other players online.Side missions will be available as well alongside the "deep" and "abundant" story campaign, which will allow players to earn upgrades to their growing skillset.

Extinctionis 100 per cent power and adrenaline,” said Kraig Kujawa, game director at Iron Galaxy. We’re really happy with the fast, fluid feel of the game and we’re looking forward to showing it behind closed doors at E3!”

Derek Neal, executive producer at Maximum Games, added:As the protagonist tasked with a huge undertaking – both in fighting enormous ogres and saving humans from disaster – each player’s experience will be varied, as the landscapes and battle situations are never identical."
