Splyce head coach YamatoCannon steps away from the role

Splyce’s head coach, Jakob Medbi, will be stepping down from the role, the League of Legends team has announced today.

Medbi, better known by his handle YamatoCannon, has responded to the news on Twitter, saying only that he intends to release a vlog statement on the matter at some point today, after the news broke yesterday.

In a video statement, also delivered via Twitter, Splyce have said that they felt they needed someone else to take them forwards so that the team and brand could grow. Team growth was the main area where they felt they had stalled under Medbi, they say in a video.

The team had early success under Medbi, fighting through the EU Challenger series to enter the European League of Legends Champion Series (EU LCS). They failed to win the Summer Split title, but fought their way through the regional qualifiers to emerge as Europe’s third seed in League of Legend’s 2016 Worlds tournament.

This year though, their season has been bumpier, ending the Spring Split in third place of Group B, before losing to Misfits in the quarter-finals of the regional qualifiers.
