Rise of Tyrants scrapped in wake of Z2Live layoffs

Things are looking grim for King-owned Seattle-based studio Z2Live.

Yesterday, we reported that several members of staff had been laid off from the support and marketing teams. Now it has emerged that the studio’s latest game is due to be closed.

Pocket Gamer reports that Rise of Tyrants will be shut down on October 17th, according to a new in-game prompt. The game was soft launched two years ago and had been building up to a full release.

King has already decided to shut down a number of Z2Live’s other titles, meaning the studio will only have one game remaining: Paradise Bay. No reason has been given for this latest closure.

As of August 17th, in-app purchases in Rise of Tyrants will be shut down and players will be credited with 10m nanocite – the game’s virtual currency – enabling them to unlock everything and get as much out of the game as possible before it closes.

It is not clear what King’s future plans for the studio are.
