Initial round will focus on early stage developers with new IP, second round of funding to follow next year

UK Games Fund now open for applications

Applications are now being accepted for the new UK Games Fund.

This is the £4m fund set aside for games developers building prototypes announced by the Government earlier this year. Studios will be able to apply for grants of up to £25,000.

The initial round of funding will be awarded to established but growing studios, with plans to help longer-running and newly-formed studios at a later date.

You can find out more about the application process at www.ukgamesfund.com. Any applications require nominations by two industry peers.

“We know from talking to the companies that we supported in the previous fund and from the enquiries we’ve received since our launch, that there’s a terrific need amongst early stage developers, who’ve been running for a couple of years and now have new IP they need to develop” said Paul Durrant, MD of UK Games Fund.

“We’re reaching out to them first and accelerating the process by seeking recommendations to highlight strong projects from industry peers."

He went on to add that the interest from new studios and those who did not take part in the previous fund has been noted and a second round of funding is planned for early 2016. Further funding rounds will be run at later dates, with plans for the scheme to continue up to 2019.

“We’re incredibly excited about this first round, but it’s just a small first step amongst range of planned funding packages and talent support projects," Durrant added. "We’re going to join things up so that there’s a significant overlap between supported companies, the wealth of UK games development talent and experienced mentors with all of those contributing to value growth in the UK games ecosystem."
