Studio GM quits a year after acquisition of Pitbull

Robert Troughton leaves Epic Games UK

Epic Games UK general manager Robert Troughton has left the studio.

Troughton founded Pitbull Studio in 2010 where he held the position of managing director. After years focusing on Unreal Engine development, Epic Games bought the company in August last year.

Troughton was subsequently named GM of Epic UK. He has now left the firm however and started a new company, Coconut Lizard. There are no details on what the new firm is working on.

Epic gave no reason for his departure, nor details on a replacement, but wished him the best for the future.

"Robert Troughton has moved on from Epic Games,” an Epic spokesperson told Develop.

“We appreciate his support over the years, and we wish him the best for the future."

Update: Troughton has provided Develop with a statement on his departure. His final day at Epic will be on August 28th. He said Epic currently has no plans to appoint a direct replacement.

"All I can say right now is that I had an amazing time running Pitbull, and Epic UK, to now," he said. "I’ve worked with Epic HQ to ensure that the UK operation is ready to be handed over to them – and for it to be run without me. There are no plans to replace me, the UK studios will simply run as part of Epic’s global operations.

"My final day with Epic UK will be 28th August. I’ll be very sad to go, of course, the team we built is a fantastic one, very highly regarded within Epic and obviously a huge part of the development of Unreal Engine 4. I’m going to miss the team there – and can’t wait to see what they do next."
