Blizzard registers eSports service trademark for ‘Compete’

Blizzard has filed for a new trademark indicating the company is looking into increasing its support of eSports.

VG247 reports on the listing registered as Compete, pointing out that the trademarking might not mean a platform carrying the name is actively under construction.

The description details a service that would seemingly work well with Blizzard’s Battle.net, with the trademark defined as an online non-downloadable Internet-based system application featuring technology enabling users to organize and promote e-sports tournaments, to create and customize tournament brackets and ladders, track tournament progress, maintain related statistics, and post results”.

Blizzard currently carries four intellectual properties geared toward eSports in StarCraft, World of Warcraft PvP, Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm – perhaps soon to be five with Overwatch.
