Superhero brawler is now mobile games firm’s fastest-growing title in history

Marvel: Contest of Champions passes $100m, breaks Kabam records

Kabam has announced that Marvel: Contest of Champions has generated $100m in gross revenue after just seven months.

This makes it the fastest-growing title in the company’s history, beating the previous record-holder The Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle-Earth, which reached the milestone in 13 months. Kabam now has five titles that have hit $100m in revenue.

Contest of Champions has been downloaded more than 40m times, and ranked as a top-grossing game in 106 countries, according to VentureBeat. Kabam plans to release the title in China later this year.

These hit games helped drive Kabam’s revenues up to $400m in 2014, continuing the firm’s track record of profitability since 2012.

The company is now slowing the number of releases in order to put more time and resource into each title. Four new Kabam games – including a brand new Star Wars action RPG –are expected to launch this year, a distinct decline from the 16 launched in 2014.
