Studio retakes its old name as it begins work on a new project

People Can Fly splits from Epic Games

Epic Games Poland has split off from Epic to become an independent studio once again.

The developer, formerly known as People Can Fly, is also taking back its old name. The studio’s leadership team now has complete control over the company. Epic said it supports the team’s decision.

The studio will continue working on Unreal Engine 4 and Epic’s upcoming title Fortnite despite the split. It is also using UE4 for its own, “entirely new” unannounced game.

"We, as a People Can Fly team, are extremely excited about new possibilities ahead of us," said studio director Sebastian Wojciechowski.

"We’re going to work on a new game, while continuing to partner with Epic and use UE4. We’re grateful to Tim and the whole Epic team for our long and successful collaboration."

People Can Fly was founded in Poland in 2002. The studio has developed games such as the Painkiller series for PC and Xbox. In 2007, Epic Games purchased a majority stake in the developer, which saw it work on titles such as Gears of War and Bulletstorm, as well as later taking the reins on Gears of War Judgment.

The studio was renamed to Epic Games Poland in November 2013 to “better reflect” the global nature of Epic’s business.
