New point release also introduces new OpenGL renderer, Android and Linux support

Crytek adds Oculus support with CryEngine 3.8.1

German tech firm Crytek has released the latest version of its flagship tech CryEngine, enabling devs to use the powerful engine to create virtual reality games.

CryEngine 3.8.1 is one of the firm’s biggest point releases yet, with a particular highlight being the addition of Oculus Rift support. In Crytek’s release notes, the company said that this has been a joint effort between the CryEngine team and the in-house studio behind VR adventure Robinson: The Journey.

The newest iteration of the engine also introduces an OpenGL renderer that lets devs publish games for Android and Linux.

Additional features include updates to voxel-based rendering, such as volumetric fog, and a new game code sample package GameZero, which makes it easier to create a game through CryEngine without any Crysis-related code that is not needed in certain titles.

You can find full details over at CryEngine’s website.
