Console editions of Minecraft adding default female character this week

Minecraft’s default female character Alex will be added to console versions of the game later this week, Mojang has revealed.

Owners of PlayStation and/or Xbox editions of the game will receive the Alex skins as a free update this Wednesday, according to a post by Mojang’s Owen Hill on the studio’s official blog.

"Now, everyone loves Steve — he’s probably the most famous minecrafter in the world, and has excellent stubble," Hill said. "But jolly old Steve doesn’t really represent the diversity of our playerbase. For that reason, we’re giving all players opportunity to play with an Alex skin instead. She brings thinner arms, redder hair, and a ponytail.”

Alex was originally added as a default skin to the PC release of the game as part of last September’s 1.8 update.

In related news, The Simpsons skin pack will arrive for Minecraft’s PlayStation editions later this week. The pack released on Xbox 360 and Xbox One editions earlier this year.
